Terms of Service

1. Introduction

Welcome to ChessFrog ("ChessFrog," "we," "us," or "our"). ChessFrog is an online platform for solving chess puzzles and improving your tactical skills through puzzle training, ratings, and progress tracking. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the ChessFrog website and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using ChessFrog, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. We may update these Terms from time to time as described in Section 20 ("Changes to ChessFrog"); continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country to use online services without parental or guardian consent, to create a ChessFrog account. By creating an account, you represent that you meet this requirement and that you have the legal capacity to agree to these Terms. If you create or manage an account on behalf of a child, you are responsible for that child's use of the Service in accordance with these Terms.

4. ChessFrog Account

You can use certain parts of the Service without an account through a temporary guest session. To save your progress, ratings, and rewards permanently, you need a ChessFrog account, created by:

• Signing up with an email address and password, or
• Signing in with a Google account, or
• Signing in with an Apple account

If you start as a guest and later create an account, the progress associated with your guest session carries over to your new account.

5. Account Security

You are responsible for:

• Keeping your login credentials, including your password, confidential and secure.
• Providing accurate, current, and complete information when creating and maintaining your account.
• All activity that occurs under your account, whether or not you authorized it.
• Notifying us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

You may not share your account where doing so is prohibited by these Terms, or attempt to access another user's account without authorization.

6. Use of ChessFrog

ChessFrog provides online chess puzzle solving and training, including puzzle themes, adaptive puzzle training, puzzle ratings, experience points (XP), coins, streaks, challenges, achievements, favorites, and personalized progress tracking. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for your personal, non-commercial use, subject to these Terms.

7. Chess Puzzles and Training

ChessFrog offers chess puzzles organized by theme and difficulty, along with an adaptive Puzzle Training mode that adjusts to your skill level over time. We provide this content for educational and recreational purposes. We do not guarantee that every puzzle is free of error, that solving puzzles will improve your chess ability or any official chess rating, or any specific competitive or tournament outcome. Your results depend on your own effort, practice, and other factors outside our control.

8. User Ratings, XP, Coins, Streaks and Progress

Your ChessFrog puzzle rating is an in-app measurement of your tactical performance on the platform, calculated using our own rating system. It is not an official or verified chess rating and is not directly comparable to ratings issued by federations or other platforms.

Experience points (XP), coins, and diamonds are virtual, in-app rewards with no cash value. Coins and diamonds:

• Have no monetary value and are not a form of currency, security, or deposit.
• Cannot be sold, transferred, or redeemed for real money or any other item of real-world value, unless ChessFrog explicitly introduces a feature that says otherwise.
• May be earned, spent, adjusted, or removed by ChessFrog in connection with normal use of the Service — for example, spending coins to unlock a puzzle hint.

Streaks, challenges, achievements, and other progression systems reflect your recorded activity on ChessFrog and are calculated and stored by our systems. We may modify, rebalance, reset, or discontinue rating calculations, XP, coins, diamonds, streaks, challenges, or any other progression or reward system at any time to maintain the fairness, balance, or integrity of the Service.

9. Free and Premium Features

Some parts of ChessFrog are available to every account; other features may be limited for free accounts or reserved for accounts with premium access. We may change which features are free or premium, and the scope of any limits (such as a daily puzzle allowance), at any time.

10. Subscriptions and Payments

ChessFrog does not currently offer paid subscriptions. If we introduce paid subscriptions or other paid features in the future, the applicable price, billing frequency, payment processor, and related terms will be presented to you before you pay, and additional terms specific to that offering will apply and be incorporated into these Terms by reference. This section will be updated once paid subscriptions become available.

11. Cancellation

Because ChessFrog does not currently offer paid subscriptions, there is nothing to cancel beyond closing or deleting your account (see Section 21). If paid subscriptions are introduced, this section will describe how to cancel them.

12. Refunds

Because ChessFrog does not currently process payments, no refund policy is in effect. A refund policy will be published here if and when paid features are introduced.

13. Acceptable Use

You agree to use ChessFrog only for its intended purpose and in compliance with these Terms and all applicable laws. You are responsible for all content and activity associated with your account.

14. Prohibited Activities

When using ChessFrog, you must not:

• Use bots, scripts, or other automated or unauthorized means to solve puzzles, play moves, or otherwise interact with the Service.
• Manipulate, inflate, or otherwise interfere with puzzle ratings, XP, coins, diamonds, streaks, challenges, or leaderboards through unauthorized methods.
• Exploit bugs, glitches, or unintended behavior in the Service instead of reporting them to us.
• Attempt to bypass, disable, or circumvent any access restriction, premium-feature gate, or other limitation in the Service.
• Access, scrape, or query the Service or its underlying data through automated means at a volume or frequency that is abusive or disruptive, or otherwise access the Service's non-public APIs without our authorization.
• Interfere with, disrupt, or place undue burden on the Service, its servers, or its networks.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service, except to the extent such a restriction is prohibited by applicable law.
• Submit fraudulent payment information or attempt to obtain features or rewards through fraudulent means.
• Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable law or regulation.

We use server-side validation and other technical safeguards to protect the integrity of puzzle ratings, XP, coins, diamonds, and other progress, and we may investigate and act on suspected violations of this section.

15. User-Generated Content

Certain parts of ChessFrog let you provide your own content, such as your username, display name, and messages you submit through our feedback form. You are responsible for any content you submit and confirm that it does not violate these Terms, infringe anyone's rights, or contain unlawful, abusive, or impersonating material. We may remove or modify a username, display name, or other submitted content that violates these Terms, and we may use feedback you submit to operate, maintain, and improve the Service.

16. Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, design, puzzles curated or created by ChessFrog, graphics, and branding, is owned by ChessFrog or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Except for the limited license granted in Section 6, nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership rights to you. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service, or reverse engineer it, except as permitted by law or with our prior written consent.

17. Third-Party Services

ChessFrog uses select third-party services to operate — for example, Google and Apple to offer "Sign in with Google/Apple," and a product-analytics provider to help us understand how the Service is used (see our Privacy Policy for details). Your use of a third-party sign-in option is also subject to that provider's own terms and privacy policy.

18. External Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or resources. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of any third-party site. Links are provided for convenience and do not imply endorsement.

19. Service Availability

We aim to keep ChessFrog available and working well, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free, or continuous availability of the Service. The Service may be unavailable at times for maintenance, updates, or reasons outside our control.

20. Changes to ChessFrog

We may add, change, suspend, or remove features of the Service — including puzzles, puzzle themes, training content, rating systems, XP, coins, diamonds, streaks, challenges, and achievements — at any time. We may also update these Terms from time to time; if we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

21. Account Suspension/Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, in whole or in part, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, engaged in prohibited activity, or created risk or legal exposure for ChessFrog or other users. You may stop using the Service at any time. You can permanently delete your ChessFrog account and its associated data — including your profile, rating, XP, coins, diamonds, streaks, and puzzle history — at any time from Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account. Account deletion is immediate and permanent and cannot be undone.

22. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that puzzles, ratings, or other content will always be accurate or complete. ChessFrog is an educational and recreational tool, and your use of it — including any decisions you make based on your rating or progress — is at your own discretion and risk.

23. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ChessFrog and its officers, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

24. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold ChessFrog and its officers, employees, and agents harmless from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party.

25. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to ChessFrog and its operating entity, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles, except where applicable law provides otherwise for consumers in your jurisdiction.
