Pin Chess Puzzles

A pin immobilizes an enemy piece by threatening a more valuable piece (often the king) directly behind it on the same line. A pinned piece can't move without exposing the piece behind it to capture — which means it effectively stops defending anything else on the board.

Understanding Pins

To exploit a pin, first find pieces lined up on a rank, file, or diagonal with the enemy king or queen behind them, then look for how to attack the pinned piece again, overload it, or bring more force to bear on the square it's guarding, since it can no longer move to help.
